After a forced entry

Break-in Repair and Security Upgrades in Alicante

First the door has to lock again tonight, so you can sleep or leave. Then it has to be harder to force than it was. Both are done by the same person, with photos and an invoice your insurer can work with.

Burglary in Alicante, in one figure

The city recorded 677 home burglaries in 2025, the highest number of any municipality in the province, according to the Ministry of the Interior’s crime figures as reported in the local press. It is not a reason to panic. It is a reason to look at the door you have.

Tonight: making the door secure

  • Photographs of the damage before we touch anything
  • The forced cylinder or lock replaced, or the door secured temporarily if the frame needs a carpenter
  • Every key accounted for, so you know who can get in

Afterwards: a proper security upgrade

  • High security cylinders certified against bumping, picking, drilling and snapping
  • Armoured escutcheon plates that stop the cylinder being gripped or snapped
  • Extra locks on sliding and terrace doors, often the way in on ground floors
  • Reinforced keeps and strike plates on timber frames

When Alicante homes are most exposed

  • Empty for the season

About one home in five in Playa de San Juan is classed as empty in the city’s housing study. A door nobody checks is a door nobody notices has been tried.

  • Hogueras nights

From 20 to 24 June the city is out until late. It is worth leaving the door locked with the key, not just pulled shut.

  • Ground floors and terraces

Sliding doors onto terraces and gardens are opened more easily than the front door. They deserve the same attention.

After a break-in: common questions

Should I call the police or the locksmith first?
The police, on 091 or 112, and do not touch the door until they have seen it. Then call us: we make the door lockable the same night, and we photograph the damage for your insurer before we start.
Will my insurance pay for the new lock?
Many home policies cover repairs after a burglary, and some cover the emergency locksmith too. It depends on your policy. We give you photographs and an itemised invoice so the claim has what it needs.
What is a high security cylinder and do I need one?
A cylinder certified to resist bumping, picking, drilling and snapping, usually with a protected key system. If your door has been forced once, the answer is almost always yes, together with an armoured escutcheon plate that shields it.
The burglars came through a sliding door. Can you secure that too?
Yes. We repair or replace the lock and can add a second keyed lock to the sliding door, which stops it being lifted off its track.

Only need a planned cylinder change, with no break-in? See changing a lock. If you are locked out as well, go to help tonight. Insurers and administrators can reach us by email from the contact page.
