Door Opening in Alicante, Without Damage Wherever the Lock Allows
Most doors open without a mark on them. When one cannot, because of the cylinder fitted or because the lock has failed inside, you are told why, shown the lock and given the cost of what comes next before anything is drilled.
How each kind of door is opened
The door and the lock decide the method, not the other way round.

Alicante’s doors come in layers
In a block in the Centro, Ensanche or Benalúa, getting home usually means two locks: the street door of the building and your own landing door. The same goes for the tall blocks of Playa de San Juan, laid out from 1959 along avenida Costa Blanca.
On the Cabo de las Huertas and in Albufereta, a detached house can have a garden gate, a pedestrian door and the main door, each with its own key. In Urbanova the flat sits inside one of eight gated phases. Telling us which layer you are stuck at is half the job.

When the lock itself is the problem
Sometimes the door is only the symptom: a cylinder worn to the point of jamming, a mechanism that has dropped out of line. Then the opening is followed by a new cylinder fitted, or, on a sliding terrace door or a uPVC frame, by aluminium door lock repairs. Door opening: what people want to know
- How do you know it is my home?
- Once the door is open, before anything else, we check an ID with the address, a rental contract or a utility bill, or the owner or agency confirms by phone. If none of that is possible, we wait with you until it is.
- Why would a lock ever have to be drilled?
- Because some cylinders are built precisely to resist being opened without the key, and some locks have failed inside so no technique can turn them. In both cases we explain it, show you the lock and give you the cost of the replacement before drilling.
- Can you open the door to a building’s communal area?
- Yes, if you live in the building or have the administrator’s authorisation. Many street doors in Alicante’s blocks use an electric or latch lock that can be released without harm.
- The key is in the lock on the inside. Is that a problem?
- It makes picking harder on some locks, because the cylinder is blocked from the other side. Say so on the phone; it changes which tools are brought and occasionally means the cylinder is replaced.
